Below are some basic pilot training requirements:

Private Pilot

  • Must be 16 to solo, & 17 to get your Private Pilot License
  • A minimum of 40 logged hours with certain requirements met
  • A minimum of 20 hours of in-flight instruction
  • Pass FAA Medical Exam before 1st solo
  • Pass FAA Written Test
  • Pass FAA oral and flight Practical Test (Checkride) with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner

Instrument Rating

  • Have Private or Commercial Pilot License
  • A minimum of 40 logged instrument hours with certain requirements met
  • A minimum of 15 hours in in-flight instruction
  • Pass FAA Medical Exam
  • Pass FAA Written Test
  • Pass FAA oral and flight Practical Test (Checkride) with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner

Commercial Pilot

  • Have Private Pilot License
  • Must be 18 years old
  • A minimum of 250 hours total time logged with certain requirements met
  • Pass FAA Medical Exam
  • Pass FAA Written Test
  • Pass FAA oral and flight Practical Test (Checkride) with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner
